Daily Bible Reading

One of our core beliefs is that the Bible is the WORD of God. We believe that God’s Word is the only completely reliable and truthful authority and we accept the Bible as our manual for living.

Our first question when faced with a decision is, “What does the Bible say?" With that in mind, we practice daily Bible reading and Bible study, because the Bible is the basis for all we believe.

But with that said, we often hear, "Where do I start?"

Whether you are new to reading the Bible, or have one with pages that are falling out, we recommend the Bible App. The simplest place to start from there is to join our Bible reading plan where we read through the entire New Testament each year as a church.

S.O.A.P.

At Mosaic we teach a Bible study method called "S.O.A.P." (which we will outline below). And we believe there are several things that happen when we S.O.A.P. regularly. We believe we:

  • Grow in our personal relationship with God.

  • Develop our prayer life.

  • Learn stories of the Bible.

  • See our place in the story of God

Scripture

S – Scripture

Open your Bible to the chapter of the day or to a daily Bible reading plan (we recommend using the Bible App, see above, for many great Bible reading plans). Take time reading and allow God to speak to you. When you are done, look for a verse that particularly spoke to you that day, and write it in your journal.

Observation

O – Observation

Write down your observations about this verse. What do you think it means? What do you think God is saying in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you; but don't worry about getting everything right. This is about you learning and interacting with the Bible.

Application

A – Application

Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. How does it relate to your circumstances? Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this Scripture can apply to you today.

Prayer

P – Prayer

If you are doing this with a group, you can pray together and for each other. But this can be as simple as asking God to help you use this Scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out.
